Our Church History

The Church was built in 1930 by Trinity Lutheran Church, which was part of the old Norwegian Danish Group. It was designed and built to have an upper level sanctuary but was never finished. Reverend John Williams founded and pastored Community Baptist Church in 1973 and retired in 1978. The Community Baptist Church was renting the building located at 900 East New York Street from a Hispanic Bishop. Reverend Isaiah Malone lead by the spirit and encouraged by Reverend Williams, stepped in as pastor in 1978.

He was encouraged by the Bishop to purchase the building and later he completed a major remodeling of its interior. During the process of purchasing the building,
Rev. Malone found that the church had not been registered by the state. He registered the church as New Community Baptist Church. Rev. Malone retired to Alabama in March of 1998. In March of 1998, encouraged by his own pastor Reverend Brown of Progressive Baptist Church and by Reverend Malone and being led by the Holy Spirit,
Reverend George Rayford who prefers to be addressed as Servant George Rayford became pastor.

In early 2002, a final decision was made to add on to the existing sanctuary.
By November, plans were drawn up and we were on our way. Over the next year, there were a number of fundraising events as well as a number of bank visits but by April of 2003, financing had been established and we had the go ahead to build. Contractors were selected and by November construction had begun.

From December of 2003 until November 28, 2004 services were held at Aurora Christian School. In the spring of 2004, during the time of renovation and construction.

New Community Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor George Rayford, appointed its first Youth Pastor, Reverend Charles Jones Jr. Although he continues to serve as Youth Pastor, he was later elevated to Assistant Pastor.

On December 12, 2004, we held our first service in our new Sanctuary. A new usher board including a youth usher board, hospitality, Pastor’s Aid ministry, youth choir, Mother’s board, new membership and Christian education classes, a youth ministry, women’s ministry, men’s ministry and a new music ministry were birthed. Servant Rayford also ordained eleven Deacons and three ministers and four Evangelist.

On May 3, 2015, New Community was saddened as Evangelist Mother Fannie Rayford departed from this walk of life in exchange for a walk in that Golden City. We thank God for Mother Rayford’s life and legacy and the strong impact she had on the many lives and ministries at New Community. There will always be so many precious memories.
We loved her, but God loved her more. The faithful God that we serve, continued to watch over us. In His infinite wisdom and because of His incredible love, God sent us Sister Ruby. Ruby and Servant Rayford held a ceremony at New Community on December 20, 2015.

On February 9, 2020, New Community celebrated yet another milestone with the Mortgage Burning Ceremony. It’s been a journey, but thanks to God who gives us what we need through His son Jesus Christ, we continue to grow. Truly we can say that we’ve come this far by faith, for if it had not been for the Lord on our side, we would not have made it thus far. It is no secret what God can do, what He has done for others, He will do the same for us, as long as we continue to love and support one another.

The Vision, The Fellowship and The Commitment Continue
Thank you New Community members for your faithfulness.
I love you and you can’t do nothing about it!
